PREVENTING ELDER ABUSE
As your Sheriff, I will direct the formation of a special unit to address elderly abuse and investigate crimes against the elderly.
Thousands of Broward County residents who are age 60 and older are being abused. They are financially exploited physically, sexually and emotionally abused, neglected and abandoned.
Although there are state abuse hotlines (800-962-2873) to report abuse and neglect, the Broward Sheriff’s Office can take a more active role in protecting our elderly and arresting people who exploit and abuse them.
As your sheriff, I will direct the formation of a special unit to address elderly abuse and investigate crimes against the elderly, while working with other cities and state agencies to protect elderly from identified abusers. This is an underserved group of people who live among us and need our help.
BSO will take a more proactive role in investigating abuse and building cases against people who abuse and neglect the elderly. They deserve better.
