IMPROVE BSO's EMERGENCY OPERATIONS CENTER

BSO%20-%20Al%20Pollock%20For%20Sheriff%2

The SEOC needs to be in a larger room with the latest communications technology inside the existing building where people who are involved in managing a crisis can see and speak to each other.

As the lead constitutional law enforcement officer of Broward County, the sheriff is responsible for responding to Broward County during an emergency. The sheriff must have the resources and the capability to respond to critical and significant incidents.

Part of this response is the activation of the Sheriff's Emergency Operations Center (SEOC). The SEOC should function as the agency’s overall incident management control. Unfortunately, the SEOC is in a small room packed with workstations, chairs, computers and monitors. Not everyone who is involved in the SEOC operations can fit in the room during a crisis. Instead, key personnel operate from separate offices and other floors within the public safety complex. This is inconvenient for communications and impossible for an agile response, and, more importantly, inefficient for unified command.

The SEOC needs to be in a larger room with the latest communications technology within the existing building where people who are involved in managing a crisis can see and speak to each other.

As sheriff, I will ensure that changes are made to have an efficient SEOC that enables BSO command staff to direct an efficient response to a crisis.
