We Joined Forces To Collect PPE Supplies for BSO Employees

In response to the increased number of Broward Sheriff's Office employees who are infected by COVID-19, the novel coronavirus, I teamed with Republican candidate for sheriff H. Wayne Clark on Sunday at Bokampers Sports Bar & Grill's parking lot in Plantation to collect personal protective equipment supplies, financial donations and gift cards for county and municipal law enforcement employees. We did this because, despite claims by the current sheriff that BSO employees had sufficient PPE gear. In fact, they do not.

With the passing of BSO Deputy Shannon Bennett on Friday, April 4, both Mr. Clark and I thought that the issue of BSO employees not having enough PPE equipment and support from the command staff for training and protection transcended political boundaries. We came together on Sunday afternoon to raise awareness of a need for more PPE equipment for BSO and municipal police, and fire-rescue employees throughout the county.

Donations of gloves, masks, cleaning supplies and gift cards and other items will be given to the BSO employees through their unions for use on their jobs.

We expect to hold another joint collection in the next several weeks.
