Yesterday, three BSO deputies who did not have personal protective equipment restrained a homeless man in Terminal 3 at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and preventing him from by-passing security to enter the Jet Blue area. Two of the deputies sustained minor injuries during the incident. The homeless man had an unknown medical condition and was pronounced dead at a local hospital. It is not known at this time whether the homeless man had COVID-19, and whether the deputies have been exposed. It is both unfortunate that the man passed away, and also that the deputies did not have adequate protection. Hopefully, the man did not have the virus and the deputies are safe. This is another indication of the lack of support by the current sheriff to provide BSO employees with adequate safety equipment, in this case masks and gloves.
